Midterm Exam

The midterm exam is uploaded on Canvas and on the course website (here). Please go through the instructions carefully before answering the questions. Additionally, you can use the midterm exam discussion thread to ask any clarifying questions. Good luck!.

Midterm Exam: Announcement

TAs discussed in class the midterm is on Monday, Oct 31. The midterm will be available on Canvas and on the course website by 21:00 on Monday. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • The exam will be a take-home exam. Turn in your submissions on Canvas.
  • Please export your Pluto notebooks to HTML format and change the name to: YOUR_NAME.html
  • Please collapse all markdown cells before exporting your solutions to HTML.
  • Remember to use the correct mathematical notation in your answers. You will have points deducted if your notation doesn’t make sense, e.g., expectation of a deterministic variable.

If you have any questions please reach out to me or the TA.

The solutions for HW1 and HW2 are uploaded on Canvas and on the course website. In addition, the confidence interval examples we went through in class today are available here.

Monday’s class will be a review for the midterm. Have a great weekend!

Zoom Recordings

The Zoom recordings for the lectures on Monday and Wednesday are available on Canvas. Those of you who e-mailed me, thanks for reminding me that you didn’t have access to the recordings. Today’s lecture will be back in-person. See you all in class.

Today’s Class + HW2 Correction

As announced on Friday, today’s class and the class on Wed (Oct 12th) will be online on Zoom. The meetings will be recorded and available on Canvas. The zoom link for today’s class is below:

Also, note that there was a typo in HW2. The corrected version is now on Canvas. Please use the updated version of the notebook, or note the correction in your existing notebooks if you’ve started working on it already.

Introduction to Julia

The complete notebook for the introduction to Julia is now available on the course website. The link is here. From Monday onward, we will get back on track, and start doing mathematical statistics. Have a great weekend!

Julia & Pluto Setup: Recording

The link to yesterday’s recording for setting up Julia and Pluto is available here

Please go through the resources on the course website to familiarize yourself with the Pluto notebook environment. For tomorrow’s lecture, we’ll go through Pluto notebooks in more detail. Specifically:

  • A super quick primer for the Julia syntax
  • Examples of Markdown and Tex in the notebooks

Make sure you’re able to download the files for the HW-0 example here and the MD and TeX example here, and that you’re able to run it successfully on your own systems. That’ll be the starting point for tomorrow’s class.

The course webpage and the Canvas homepage now shows the updated office hours. The information is below:

Tomrrow’s Class (Aug 24)

Please bring your laptops with you for tomorrow’s class; we will go through the process of:

  1. Setting up Julia on your system, and
  2. How to launch Pluto notebooks from Julia

Remember that your assignments, class participation and exams are required to be submitted as HTML files exported using Pluto notebooks, so please ask me any questions you might have during the process tomorrow.

Also, please complete the brief questionnaire on Canvas. It’s due on Aug 26th, but the sooner the better! The office hours for myself and the TA will be posted on the website soon.
